Powers/Abilities: Firebrand has the usual array of ghostly powers, in particular being able to become insubstantial. He is vulnerable when solid, as witnessed when Jim's dog Trap chewed on his wooden leg.

History: In life Firebrand Frobisher had been "the finest skipper that ever sailed a three-master on a port tack, with her wind singing in her weather-braces". During his life he had been a pirate and a smuggler among other things, but that was around 300 years ago. Now young Jim Frobisher, his descendent, had run away from his cruel uncle, who had been his guardian since his father had vanished at sea. The boy returned to the ancestral home of Masthead Manor, a building in Cornwall resembling an old fashioned galleon. There he encountered Firebrand, who took the lad under his wing.

Comments: Other ghosts who decided to help their ancestors include Sir Stanley Harker and Marcus Britannicus.
