History: The Man from B.U.N.G.L.E. was a oft-inept spy pursuing various criminals, but most commonly the dread Doctor Goole. Inevitably the Man from B.U.N.G.L.E. would blunder into some sort of deathtrap or deadly situation, only to then demonstrate his one true talent, an ability to extricate himself miraculously from such situations.

Comments: Created by Leo Baxendale. The Man from B.U.N.G.L.E. initially occupied the cover of Smash!, with full cover panels depicting his apparent imminent doom, and readers challenged to guess how he would get out alive; the answer would then be given on the editorial page within. After a while he was replaced on the covers by reprints of U.S. import Batman and Robin, and the Man from B.U.N.G.L.E. moved to a more standard comedy strip inside the comic. In the first of those longer strips (Smash! #45) an editor's note mentions that B.U.N.G.L.E. stands for Batty and Uneducated Nits and Goofs, Larry Especially (and the Man from B.U.N.G.L.E. mentions his friends call him Larry). Though the name of the strip was clearly inspired by the then-popular spy series Man from U.N.C.L.E., there was no other real similarity between the two series, with B.U.N.G.L.E. being a more generic parody of spy stories.
