Ironmaster

Real Name: Danny Ventor

Identity/Class: Human using magical weapons

Occupation: School boy

Affiliations: Mutt

Enemies: The Mask

Known Relatives: None

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: London

First Appearance: Valiant (IPC, 2nd March 1968)

Powers/Abilities: Using his sword and shield, Ironmaster could manipulate metal objects, generally either attracting them to him or away from him. He was effectively bullet-proof, as the projectiles would always strike his shield, and he could simulate flying so long as their was a metal object he could "grab on to" to draw himself towards - in this way he pursued escaping cars or flew to the tops of buildings by drawing himself towards the drainpipes.

History: While trying to evade a pursuing police officer, young tearaway Danny Ventor sought refuge by lifting a grating in the pavement and dropped down a ventilation shaft into a tube tunnel in the London Underground. His fall also dislodged an old Roman helmet and sword, both badly corroded. Figuring they might be worth some money, Danny gathered them up and made his way down the tunnel, hoping to reach the next station before a train passed, but en route he spotted a dog limping along the tracks. Having a soft spot for animals, he laid his booty down by the side of the tracks and then snatched the dog up to carry to safety, but as he did so he spotted the lights of an approaching train. In his haste to evade it, he knocked the sword against the live rail, and was electrocuted, but instead of dying, he found himself transformed into the Ironmaster - a gladiator-like figure whose sword and shield had an uncanny power over metal objects. But Danny was soon blamed for the criminal actions of a man called "the Mask", and so along with the dog he had saved, whom Danny named Mutt, he set out to capture the villain and clear his name.
