History: Moll Moonlight was an eighteenth century crime fighter who worked alongside Jack O'Justice (or Dick Turpin, depending on which account you read).

Comments: Created by Leonard Matthews.

Writer Hugh McNeill was chosen by Matthews to start off a series of Dick Turpin strips for the back page of the Sun comic, then published in a large format. Called "Highway Days", the strip introduced a new companion for Turpin that Matthews had created, a girl comrade Moll Moonlight. These strips were originally light-hearted affairs but shortly after the format of the comic changed, so too did the Turpin stories. The readers were suddenly plunged into the Gothic horror genre of the "penny bloods" and Turpin and Moll Moonlight found themselves in a series of adventures set in haunted manor houses where weird happenings were very much the order of the day and the chief villain was the splendidly evil master criminal "Creepy" Crawley. Later the strips were reprinted in Radio Fun and then the newly launched Valiant comic with the title character renamed Jack O'Justice. After several years new strips were created for the pair of heroes.
