Martin Eden's O-Men

(l to r) Fox, Abby Lowe (his girlfriend), Vixen (II), Magenta, Miss Scarlet, Debris, Brainstorm, Doctor O

With the virtual demise of the weekly anthology title in Britain during the 1980's (a few stragglers made it into the 1990's, but they were exceptions) showcases for new British talent reduced. There are, as I write this, only three survivors of the old school - the Beano, the Dandy, and 2000 A.D. (with it's offshoot, the monthly Judge Dredd Megazine, which may or may not, depending on your personal viewpoint, count as a fourth old-style title). Established talent continues to produce some of the best work available through the American publishing houses, but for newcomers the answer now seems to be self-publishing. Martin Eden launched his own small press title The O-Men a couple of years ago, and what it lacks of the glossy production values of American titles, it more than makes up for in the writing. The official website includes author's notes on most of the issues and ordering information, as well as character profiles.
