History: (Wild West #1) Tex grew up on his father's cattle ranch in Whisperin' Valley, near the town of Wishbone, Texas. Shortly before he went off to fight in the Civil War, the ranch was visited by representatives of the "Cattlemen's Protection League", in reality a local extortion racket. Tex's father refused to be intimidated, but while Tex was away in the army, he received notification that his father had died, supposedly having first sold the ranch to the League. He returned home to find his suspicions of murder confirmed, and the League's leader now elected Sheriff. A bit of digging uncovered the real villain controlling the Sheriff: the Mayor of Wishbone had discovered there might be gold on the ranch, and had forced his minion to kill Taylor Sr. Tex returned the favour, then swore to spend the rest of his life hunting down other villains.
