History: Crime reporter Chic Carter would occasionally adopt the costumed identity of the Sword in order to fight crime, using his skill with a rapier to good effect.

Comments: Chic Carter first appeared in Smash Comics #1, but did not become the Sword until #24. Even after this, he usually adventured as himself, without putting on the Sword costume. As well as the first 24 issues of Smash Comics, he turned up in National Comics #33-47 and in Police Comics #1-18.
