Sean Nault is a police detective on a parallel Earth where magic took the place of science. When a series of mysterious murders are committed using an unheard of weapon, lead projectiles fired from a hand weapon, the case leads him to another dimension where science holds sway. With the assistance of his allies, the sorcerer Wintson Churchill and "pragmatist" Lenoir Rhyne, who believes science is more than a myth, Nault must stop a conspiracy which otherwise will destroy both Earths.
