History: After the deaths of his parents and sister at the hands of Burmese bandits, young David Merrywether was raised in the wilds by a tiger, and grew up having gained many cat-luike abilities. Returning to America, David was horrified by the crimes he saw, and became a private investigator, then a soldier, and then a superhero, the Cat-Man.
Powers/Abilities: Superhuman strength and agility, "nine lives".

Comments:
His sidekick was Katie Conn, a.k.a. Kitten. Her uncle had been a villain
who tried to kill Cat-Man and paid the ultimate price for his evil. Katie
became David's ward. When Americomics revived the two characters in the 1980's
Kitten had grown up to become Katman's wife.
Both characters were given new adventures by an Australian company, which made sufficient changes to them as to justify a separate entry in the Australian heroes section of this site.
Images of Kitten and of the two in their secret identities come from Steve Rogers' Golden Years Comic Book Library, used with permission.
