To commemorate the 450th anniversary of Sir Francis Drake's Golden Hinde circumnavigating the globe in 1577, the Royal Navy commission the building of a replica intended to recreate the trip. Taking two years to build, it is launched in 1937 to massive publicity with Captain James Finch in charge of the vessel as its journey begins. However, it is still has some way to go when war breaks out in September 1939. The Admiralty orders the crew to evacuate by air back to Britain, but Finch decides instead to humiliate the German navy by making it home despite them.

Flight of the Golden Hinde ran in Battle Picture Weekly from 8th March 1975 – 24th May 1975. Created by S. Conforth.
