History: Dixie Null is the co-presenter of What's New?, a comic strip that discusses news and features of the gaming world, both role-playing games and trading card games such as Magic the Gathering. Her co-presenter Phil Foglio once accidentally transferred her mind into the body of a small dragon, Growf; though annoyed at him, she used her new status as a monster to research articles told from the point of view of fantasy monsters. Later she changed her alignment to become evil, and tried to conquer the world, while still remaining presenting the strip as Dragon Magazine were equal opportunity employers. However, when Phil also became evil, Dixie changed her alignment a second time to become Lawful Good.

Comments: Dixie Null was created by Phil Foglio, and originally appeared in TSR's RPG magazine Dragon in 1980. After four years the What's New? strip ended, but it was subsequently revived in Duelist magazine, where it refocussed on card gaming, but eventually it returned to Dragon in 1999, where it ran for a further four years. The strips were collected by Palliard Press, and these collections were later reprinted by Studio Foglio; the strip is also available to read for free online at the Studio Foglio website.
