Powers/Abilities: Jason is a minor telepath, with low level psi powers he can use to influence probability slightly. He normally uses this to affect games of chance. In other areas, he is extremely fit, having spent several years under the double Earth-gravity of the planet Pyrrus. While still weak compared to the native Pyrrans, he is still far stronger than most humans. He is also an extremely fast, accurate shot.
History: (Deathworld) Jason diNalt was a gambler and troubleshooter hired by the people of the Pyrrus to help them conquer their hostile planet, where everything on the planet seems to be out to kill the human settlers. Jason eventually discovered that virtually the entire planet was telepathic, and the hostility was a reaction to the settler's own negative feelings towards Pyrrus.
(Deathworld II) Jason was kidnapped from Pyrrus by the arrogant and judgmental Micah Samon, who wishes to deliver him to the custody of the gambling establishments he had cleaned out prior to going the Deathworld. However Micah's "Holier than thou" attitude doesn't help him when his spaceship crashes on a backward planet and both men are taken by the natives to become slaves.
(Deathworld III) With the colony on Pyrrus dying, Jason led the settlers who couldn't break their hostile feelings towards the planet to try and settle the mineral rich world of Felicity. However the fierce nomadic native humans, led by the warlord Temuchin, had other ideas, and had to be dealt with first.
Comments: Created by Harry Harrison. Though only three Deathworld novels have been published in English, the popularity of the series in Russia has seen an additional three novels published in that territory, co-written by Ant Skalandis - Return to Deathworld, Deathworld vs. Filibusters, and The Creatures from Hell.
In the early 1990's Adventure Comics adapted the first three Deathworld novels.
