Comments: Created by Harry Harrison. Originally published as a novelette in John W. Campbell's Astounding Magazine in 1957, Harrison published a sequel, The Misplaced Battleship in Astounding / Analog's April 1960 issue, and then combined the two short stories and expanded on them to republish as a full sized novel in 1961.

In the early 1980's several of the Stainless Steel Rat novels were serialised as comic strips in Britain's 2000A.D. - specifically The Stainless Steel Rat, The Stainless Steel Rat Saves the World, and The Stainless Steel Rat For President.
