Commander Steel
Real
Name: Jack Steel
Identity/Class: Human mutate
Occupation: International police agent
Affiliations: member of the International Police Service
Enemies: Nazis
Known Relatives: None known
Aliases: None known
Base of Operations: Worldwide
First
Appearance: Grand Slam vol3 #11 [35] (Anglo-American Publishing Co. Ltd,
October 1944) - due to the scarcity of Canadian Whites, I can't be certain
this is the first appearance, but it's the earliest I know of.
Powers/Abilities: Some degree of superhuman strength and speed
History: Commander Steel derived his abilities from the Elixir of Power that flowed in his veins. During the war he fought chiefly against Nazi's, and in the postwar period he roamed the world as an agent of International Police Service.
Comments:
Commander Steel was typically the leading character in Grand Slam Comics
which started in 1941. Ed Furness was the chief artist at Anglo-American
and American writers such as Rod Reed and Otto Binder contributed some scripts.
Thanks to Mac Murdock for the images of Commander Steel, and for confirming that Grand Slam-Three Aces Comics #46 was not his only appearance. Thanks to Darci for various corrections and updates.
CLARIFICATIONS: Not to be confused with
any other Commanders
any other Steel characters
