History: In his youth, Cadfael was a warrior, spending much time travelling Europe and beyond as a Crusader. Taking up holy orders later in life, Cadfael hoped to spend his remaining years in peace, but often found his greater life experience proved invaluable in solving mysteries near the abbey he lived in. After a while he befriended the Sheriff of Shrewsbury, who would call on his expertise in resolving crimes which happened in the area.
