History: Doug Danville was a playboy who felt the need to fight crime. He first began his costumed career as K the Unknown, before adopting a longer lasting persona of Black Owl. After a distinguished career he hung up his cape to enlist in the Army and help in the war effort.

He passed his costume on to Walt Walters, the father of teenage heroes Yank and Doodle, who became the second Black Owl.

Comments: I'm unsure of the exact issue where Walt replaced Doug as the Black Owl, but of the issues I've read, Doug was still Black Owl in #29, and Walt was Black Owl by #39, so it must have between those points. At a guess, I'd place the transition in #34, the first issue where Black Owl shared the cover with Yank and Doodle.
